The Verkhovna Rada approved the resolution on the resumption of live broadcasts of plenary sessions
On September 4, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine approved a resolution on the resumption of live broadcasts of open plenary sessions. This is reported by People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
According to him, the draft resolution №13719 was supported by 266 people’s deputies. At the same time, broadcasts will not resume immediately – their launch is scheduled for mid-September.
The need to adopt the document is explained by the change in the security situation and the need to increase the transparency of the parliament’s work even under martial law. The meetings have not been broadcast live since the beginning of the full-scale invasion of Russia. This was a consequence of the decisions of the Verkhovna Rada in September 2022 and February 2023, which established a special mode of work of the parliament and limited the dissemination of information about the progress of meetings in real time.
As the authors of the resolution note, the return of broadcasts will strengthen the accountability of the Verkhovna Rada to citizens, help strengthen public trust in the parliament, and help implement international recommendations, in particular those developed within the framework of the Jean Monnet Dialogues for Peace and Democracy.
In the explanatory note, it is emphasized that the restoration of live broadcasts should take place taking into account security requirements, for which it is planned to cancel the current ban on the dissemination of information about the course of plenary sessions. The resolution determines the procedure for the work of the parliamentary TV channel “Rada”, which will broadcast open meetings. The document also provides for the organization of speeches and statements by the leadership of the Verkhovna Rada and the holding of briefings by people’s deputies.
