The number of deaths on the water is growing in Ukraine: 142 people have died since the beginning of the year
The State Emergency Service records an increase in the number of fatalities on water in Ukraine: since the beginning of the year, 142 people have died on water bodies. About this during the briefing reported Oleksandr Khorunzhy, press officer of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine.
“We are recording an increase in the number of deaths on the water. According to statistics, 142 people have died on the water since the beginning of 2025. 11 of them are children. In 2024, we recorded 125 people (who died on the water). In 2024, there were 9 children (who died on the water). And we managed to save 130 people, 32 of them children.” Khorunzhy noted.
Just since the beginning of the week, three people have already died on the water in Ukraine. Mostly victims are fishermen who go out on the ice, despite the danger. It is during the transition period from heat to cold and vice versa that the number of dead and injured on the water increases. Tragic cases also occur due to neglect of basic safety rules.
The press officer separately emphasized that now it is extremely dangerous to go out on the ice of the reservoir:
“Unfortunately, we cannot prohibit this, but we absolutely do not recommend going out on the ice, because we have temperature drops, as you can see, and the ice is completely unstable and fragile. Here’s one piece of advice for everyone — don’t go out on the ice now.” Khorunzhy informed.
The State Emergency Service called on parents and teachers to carry out educational work, in particular in educational institutions, and to explain that going out on the ice is extremely dangerous, and to emphasize to children that they should not do anything near water bodies.
