VAKS left Yermak’s ex-deputy a bail of UAH 10 million: what is known

The Appeals Chamber of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry did not satisfy the complaint of the prosecutor and the defense of Andrii Smirnov, the former deputy head of the Office of the President, who is suspected of illegal enrichment. The preventive measure in the form of a bail of 10 million UAH was left unchanged for him.

About this informs Anti-Corruption Center.

The Appeals Chamber of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce considered the complaints of the prosecutor and the defense against the decision of the investigating judge to apply a preventive measure in the form of bail of 10 million UAH to former deputy head of the Office of the President Andrii Smirnov. As a result of the review, the appeal left the complaints unsatisfied, and the decision of the investigating judge remained unchanged. The decision was made by judges Valeriya Chorna, Oleg Pavlyshyn and Andriy Nikiforov. At the same time, the prosecutor asked to increase the bail to UAH 17 million, and the defense, on the contrary, asked to refuse the application of the bail“, the message says.

It is also reported that the decision of the investigating judge in the Smirnov case is not reflected in the register of court decisions. The reason for this is currently unknown.

Andriy Smirnov, who was appointed deputy head of the Office of the President during the time of Andriy Bohdan in September 2019, was dismissed by President Zelensky on March 29, 2024. Responsible for legal policy, law enforcement and judicial systems, Smirnov, according to NABU, is suspected of illegal enrichment for 15.7 million hryvnias in the period from 2020 to 2022.

The investigation believes that Smirnov hid assets, registering them in the name of his brother and friend. As early as the winter of 2023, journalists reported on the purchase by Smirnov’s brother of elite real estate and a plot of land at significantly reduced prices.
