The officers of the Educational Security Service are not guards, but specialists who perform much broader functions in the security system: National Police

In the modern educational environment, the safety of children is one of the most important aspects that requires special attention and high qualification of specialists who provide it. Officers of the Educational Security Service (ESS) of the National Police of Ukraine are such specialists. Their role in schools goes far beyond the usual understanding of guards. They not only perform a law enforcement function, but also actively interact with children, teaching them the basics of safety and helping to resolve conflicts peacefully.
The officers of the Educational Security Service are not ordinary school guards, but specialists who perform much broader functions in the security system of educational institutions. Nadiya Sytnyk, head of the Department of the Organization of the Educational Security Service of the National Police of Ukraine, told about this on the telethon “Yedini Novyny”, answering the question of how the work of SOB officers differs from the work of ordinary school guards.
Sytnyk emphasized that the main difference between SOB officers is that they do not perform exclusively security functions. Their activities include law enforcement, mentoring and educational components. SOB officers are called to ensure safety in the educational environment and do everything possible to prevent negative manifestations among students. This includes helping children to resolve conflicts peacefully, controlling the territory of the educational institution to prevent outsiders from entering, as well as ensuring that dangerous objects do not enter the school grounds.
In addition, the head of the SOB Organization Office noted that all SOB officers have undergone thorough selection and training. During the training, they acquired the skills of effective communication with children, understanding the age characteristics of the development of students of different school ages, and also got acquainted with game methods and interactive classes. This allows SOB officers not only to protect children, but also to teach them the necessary life and health skills, making the learning process interesting and accessible to students.
The training of civilians who aspire to become SOB officers lasts six months. This is necessary so that candidates can obtain police status and acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. The training program includes understanding the principles of inclusive education, barrier-free, mediation, restorative communication, as well as interaction with other services that protect the rights and interests of children.
Candidates for the positions of SOB officers undergo a thorough selection, which includes testing for knowledge of legislation, logic, physical training, psychological testing and other stages. After successfully passing all stages of selection, candidates go to study, which will prepare them for responsible work in educational institutions.
As Nadiya Sytnyk emphasized, during the summer vacation, SOB officers continue to study and improve their qualifications, undergoing various trainings. This allows them to constantly improve their skills and be ready to solve any challenges that may arise in the educational environment.
