The oldest man in the world celebrated his 113th birthday

Brazilian Joao Marinho Neto, who was recognized as the oldest man on the planet last November, celebrated his 113th birthday. Joao became the 26th man to officially receive the title, reports Guinness World Records,

He was born on October 5, 1912 in the city of Maranguape, in the state of Ceará (Brazil), and is now the last living man born in that year. João’s childhood was spent in a family of farmers – already at the age of four, he helped his father in the fields, looked after livestock and picked fruit.

In adulthood, he married Josefa Albano dos Santos, with whom he had four children – Antonio, José, Fatima and Wanda. His wife, who was eight years younger than him, died in 1994. Later, Joao had three more children — Vinicius, Jarbas and Conceisau — from his second partner, Antonia Rodríguez Moura.

Today, the 113-year-old long-lived man has a large family: six children, 22 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. Joao himself has repeatedly stated that his secret to longevity is to “surround yourself with good people and be close to loved ones.”

Recently, he congratulated the oldest woman in the world, the British Ethel Caterham, who celebrated her 116th birthday in August. It was the first known case of communication between the world’s oldest man and woman since both received their titles.

Recall that the previous record holder – 112-year-old John Tinniswood from Great Britain – died in November 2024, after which the title of the oldest man in the world passed to Joao Marinho Neto.
