The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania, Gabrielus Landsbergis, said that the international community should recognize the inevitability of Ukraine’s victory, as well as the defeat of Russia, in particular its President Vladimir Putin. This is a key point that, according to him, must be understood by both world leaders and Putin himself and his allies.
“Ukraine must win and declare victory, and the international community must officially recognize this fact. At the same time, Putin’s defeat must not only be accepted, but also recognized by him and his entourage.”, – said the diplomat during his speech at the Warsaw Security Forum.
The minister also emphasized that Ukraine’s victory is the only possible scenario for ensuring stability both in Europe and for Ukraine itself. He added that Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty remains the most effective security guarantee that can be provided to Ukraine in the current conditions.
In previous statements, Landsbergis was critical of calls by the Russian opposition to lift sanctions against ordinary Russians. He emphasized that these sanctions are important to slow down the Russian military machine and should not be eased, because the responsibility for the war lies not only with the leadership, but also with the entire society that supports it.
