The President of Poland demands reparations from Germany for the Second World War
The President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, during a speech at commemorative events for the 86th anniversary of the beginning of the Second World War, voiced the demand for reparations from Germany. This is reports RMF 24.
Before the festivities, Nawrocki laid flowers at the Polish military cemetery on Westerplatte. In his speech, he emphasized that for good-neighborly relations between Warsaw and Berlin, it is necessary to resolve the issue of reparations.
“In order to build a partnership based on the foundation of truth and good relations, we must solve the issue of reparations from Germany, which I, as the president of Poland, unequivocally demand for the common good, – noted Nawrocki.
He emphasized that Poland “as the most important state of the eastern flank of NATO, needs justice, truth and clear relations with Germany”.
“But it also needs reparations from the German state. I believe that the prime minister and the government of Poland will support the president’s voice on the international stage, and together with our western neighbors, we will build our real safe future, stressed Nawrocki.
Let us recall that during the rule of the party “Law and Justice” Poland demanded reparations from Germany in the amount of more than a trillion euros. Berlin rejected this demand, stressing that the issue was settled by post-war agreements.
The new government led by Donald Tusk abandoned the official line on reparations, but Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski urged Berlin to find an alternative “creative solution”.
