The President of Portugal compared Donald Trump to a “Russian agent”
Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Souza spoke about US President Donald Trump’s mediating role in the issue of ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, saying that he acts as a “Soviet or Russian” agent. This happened during his speech at the Summer University youth event organized by the Portuguese Social Democrats, reports Portugal Pulse.
Marcelo Rebelo described the current head of the White House as an example of a new, more “emotional style of political leadership”, which strives for direct contact with citizens, bypassing traditional intermediaries in a world where power dynamics have changed.
“The leader of the leading world superpower, objectively, is a Soviet or Russian agent. He acts as an agent”, said the President of Portugal.
Souza emphasized that the alliance between the American president and the Kremlin is not built on friendship, economic ties or common ideology.
“I claim that, objectively, the new American leadership strategically benefited Russia”, he noted, commenting on the actions of the US leader in the context of the war against Ukraine.
According to him, now Washington and Moscow have moved “from the role of allies on one side to the role of arbitrators” in the matter of ending the war.
“There are dire threats of sanctions every day. Were there any American sanctions against the Russian Federation under the new president? None. And they are still threatening huge sanctions. They don’t even imagine what will happen. But it is known that nothing, because Europe underestimated Trump, and the possibility of a sudden change in the balance of power, Souza emphasized.
He emphasized that the “arbiter” seeks to negotiate with only one side, excluding from the process both Ukraine and Europe, which were forced to seek their participation in recent peace discussions.
