Russia began to form a group for negotiations with the United States

Russia has begun the process of forming a negotiating team with the United States following a telephone conversation between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin. This was announced by Putin’s press secretary Dmytro Peskov during a briefing on February 13.
“Certainly, work on the formation of a negotiating group has begun. We will inform you as soon as the president makes the appropriate decision.” Peskov noted.
According to him, the decision on the composition of the negotiation group will be announced later. He explained that there are still no specific agreements regarding a possible visit of American representatives to Russia, but Putin and Trump agreed to continue contacts both personally and through their aides.
“Many topics are on the agenda, which were briefly outlined yesterday during the phone conversation, but for now it is impossible to talk about any deadlines either, because the work will only begin these days.”Peskov stressed.
He emphasized that the Kremlin considers the conversation between Putin and Trump very important:
“The previous US administration held the point of view that everything must be done to keep the war going. The current administration, as far as we understand, holds the point of view that everything must be done to stop the war and bring peace. We are much more impressed with the position of the current administration. We are open to dialogue.”, – said Putin’s press secretary.
When asked about the possible participation of European countries and China in the negotiations, he answered that “so far there is no understanding of the format of the possible negotiation process.” Peskov also urged not to draw premature conclusions regarding the specific parameters of the war settlement and to wait for the first results of the negotiations between Russia and the USA.
