The Prime Minister of Slovakia proposes to enshrine in the constitution the existence of only two articles

The Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, announced his intention to include in the country’s constitution a provision that establishes the existence of only two genders – a man and a woman. These initiatives he voiced in an interview with Slovak TV channel STVR, stating that any other gender identities should not be recognized in the constitution.
“No one here will be a helicopter, a swan, a cat or a bear. There will be either a man or a woman.” – stressed Fitso, explaining his position.
In addition, the prime minister announced other important constitutional initiatives. He proposes to establish that moral and ethical issues in Slovakia will always remain in the sphere of state sovereignty. This means that the country will independently make decisions on such issues, regardless of external pressure or international norms.
Among other initiatives is the introduction of changes to the rules of adoption of children. According to Fico’s idea, only spouses, widowers or widows who have lost their partners, or, in exceptional cases, one person by a court decision, will be able to adopt children.
Another proposal of the Prime Minister is to reform the educational program. In particular, he insists that education should be based on the principles of the constitution. If the basic law of the country enshrines that marriage is the union of a man and a woman, then, according to Fitso, this position should be taught in schools.
These statements of the Prime Minister of Slovakia were made against the background of growing discussions about gender issues in Europe and the world. Fico is known for his conservative approach to politics, which he has demonstrated not for the first time. In his rhetoric, the prime minister echoes the positions of other world leaders who advocate traditional values. For example, in December, Donald Trump, the current US president, announced that he would fight against “gender madness” and canceled the right of transgender people to serve in the US military.
Fico’s proposals caused a significant public response both in Slovakia and beyond, intensifying the debate about the role of traditional values and human rights in the modern world.
