The Russian Federation deliberately de-energized the ZNPP in order to connect it to its power grid: the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine

Russia deliberately disconnected the Zaporizhzhia NPP from Ukraine’s power grid and plans to connect it to its own power system. This was announced by the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Andrii Sybiha.

“Russia deliberately cut off the power supply to the Zaporizhia NPP. It was a manual shutdown carried out as a test, as Russia prepares to connect the occupied Zaporizhzhya NPP to its own power system,” Sybiga said.

He emphasized that Russia’s next step will be even more dangerous: “starting a reactor under occupation – without proper cooling, without any license, out of control.”

“An irresponsible step, which is only intended to demonstrate Putin’s control. Such irresponsible actions of Russia increase the risk of nuclear incidents,” added the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry.

Sibiga called on the IAEA to take all possible measures, to ensure unhindered access of repair crews and to provide specialized equipment for the immediate restoration work on the reserve line and the rapid restoration of several independent external connections to the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

We remind you that on September 23, the last external power line of the ZNPP was disconnected. The reserve line was cut off by the Russians back in May, and since then the Russian Federation has not provided safety guarantees to the repair crews of NEC “Ukrenergo” for its restoration.
