The Russian Federation uses cluster munitions from North Korea to shell Kherson
Russian troops began using North Korean-made cluster munitions for shelling Kherson. reports this by the National Police of Kherson.
“The police of the Kherson region recorded the use of cluster munitions by Russian troops in the coastal areas of the city. In addition to direct damage, elements that have not detonated are a significant danger. Such ammunition resembles bells and is equipped with characteristic fabric tails. They can explode even at the slightest touch, the message says.
During the examinations, it was found that hieroglyphs are clearly visible on the casings of the submunitions, which indicates that the projectiles were produced specifically in the DPRK. The submunition, which is used in North Korean cluster shells, received the conditional designation JU-90. According to preliminary estimates, this is a rather unsuccessful attempt by the DPRK to reproduce the American M42 submunition, which is used in the M483 and M864 cluster shells for 155 mm artillery guns.
In the North Korean JU-90, the key elements that ensure the combat effectiveness of the submunition were maximally simplified and cheapened. Replacing them with primitive analogues caused a large number of JU-90 misfires, which poses a significant threat to the civilian population.
“It is strictly forbidden to take them in your hands, move them or try to neutralize them yourself – this is the work of specialists”, – warned the police.
