The Russians fired flares at a German helicopter

A Russian warship carried out provocative actions against a German helicopter in the Baltic Sea, firing signal munitions in its direction. As informs dpa agency, the incident occurred during the helicopter’s reconnaissance mission.

The German Foreign Ministry said that in response to the incident, monitoring of pipelines, cables and other critical infrastructure in the Baltic Sea would be increased. Similar measures will be taken to protect other objects that may be potential targets for provocations.

The incident occurred against the backdrop of previous damage to communication cables in the region. Earlier, damage to underwater cables between Lithuania and Sweden, as well as between Finland and Germany was recorded in the Baltic Sea. These incidents raised suspicions of possible interference or sabotage, which significantly increased tensions in the region.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Berbock only briefly mentioned the incident at the NATO meeting in Brussels, but did not give details. Experts believe that such provocations are aimed at demonstrating strength and testing the security measures of European countries.
