The SBI is investigating a possible theft of military property and ties to the Russian Federation in the Zhytomyr region
The State Bureau of Investigation is conducting an investigation into the alleged appropriation of military property worth UAH 65 million in the Zhytomyr region. In November 2023, during an audit of the Ministry of Defense, it was discovered that components for up to three sets of secret communication equipment were missing from the records, and a large amount of precious metals was also found in the garages of the military unit.
About this informs DBR.
According to preliminary data, the officials of the military unit drew up false documents about the destruction of the equipment, but actually appropriated it for the purpose of sale. On May 14, 2024, the SBI conducted searches of four suspects, during which computer equipment, means of communication, military property and UAH 3.5 million in various currencies were seized. St. George’s ribbons and 110,000 Russian rubles were also found on one of the suspects.
Currently, the issue of notifying four military personnel of suspicion of misappropriation of military property under martial law is being resolved. The SBI is also checking possible connections of the suspects with the special services of Russia. The investigation continues, other persons who may be involved in the crime are being identified.
