The SBI referred to the court the case of a cybercriminal from Vinnytsia, involved in the theft of data from cards of foreign citizens

The offender was informed of the suspicion in February 2024. The man's luxury car was confiscated for the purpose of further special confiscation. 

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation completed a pre-trial investigation of a cybercriminal from Vinnytsia involved in defrauding foreigners and legalizing income from illegal operations. About this informs DBR.

It is known that the indictment has already been sent to the court.

The activity of the attacker began in 2017. He was engaged in the creation and sale of malicious software for one of the operating systems, which made it possible to steal personal data from mobile devices.

Later, he switched to “phishing”, using fake links and special sites to steal banking data of residents of Canada and the United States. He sold all the stolen data for cryptocurrency. The results of the investigation helped to establish that he stole and legalized in Ukraine about 3.5 million hryvnias.

When the case was finished investigating by other law enforcement agencies, it was transferred to the SBI according to the decision of the procedural manager.

The cybercriminal was informed of the suspicion in February 2024. At the same time, the man’s luxury car was arrested for further special confiscation.

The figure is accused of creating and distributing malicious software, illegal interference with the operation of electronic computers, and legalization of property (Part 1 of Article 361-1, Part 2 of Article 361, Part 1 of Article 209 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The sanction of this article provides for punishment in the form of imprisonment for a term of up to 6 years, as well as confiscation of property. Employees of the Vinnytsia Regional Prosecutor’s Office carry out procedural management.
