The SBU refused to check access to state secrets of First Deputy Prosecutor General Maria Vdovichenko.

The Security Service of Ukraine refused to check the access to state secrets of First Deputy Prosecutor General Maria Vdovichenko, whose brother works in the Russian Prosecutor’s Office. This was reported by the Anti-Corruption Center, referring to the SBU’s response.

The CPC recalled that according to the law, when appointed to previous positions, Vdovichenko should have received access to state secrets, and the SBU should have conducted the check for such access.

Previously, activists stated that Maria Vdovichenko’s brother works in the Russian military prosecutor’s office and, according to their information, betrayed Ukraine in 2014. The Anti-Corruption Center believes that this fact may be grounds for depriving the official of access to state secrets.

However, in its response, the Security Service of Ukraine noted that conducting such an inspection is not provided for by law. Because of this, the appeal was forwarded for consideration to the Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko.

“In view of the above, on 01/29/2026 your appeal was sent to the Prosecutor General for consideration of the issue of initiating the re-issuance of access to state secrets in accordance with paragraph 4 of part 1 of Article 26 of Law No. 3855-ХІІ”, – stated in the SBU response.

The CPC emphasizes that the law directly states: the Security Service of Ukraine is responsible for revoking access to state secrets. As an example, activists cite the case when the SBU previously deprived former Supreme Court judge Bohdan Lvov of his admission.

“In the meantime, we are waiting for the decision of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko, although it is worth noting that after the CPC investigation into the Vdovichenko family, the Prosecutor General promoted her and made her his first deputy,” the CPC noted.

Maria Vdovichenko was appointed Deputy Prosecutor General in June, and on December 11 she became Ruslan Kravchenko’s first deputy. Before that, since May 2023, she worked as the first deputy head of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office and actually performed the duties of the head of the capital’s prosecutor’s office.
