The Slovak authorities want to sue the previous government over the supply of MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine

In an unexpected turn of events, Slovakia’s new government, led by Robert Fico, launched serious accusations against the previous administration. Deputy Defense Minister Ihor Melicher stated that the transfer of 13 MiG-29 fighters and part of the Kub air defense system to Ukraine in March 2023 was an act of treason.

Melicher argues that the provisional government of Eduard Heger, which decided on military aid, exceeded its authority. He emphasized that the outgoing government has no right to adopt international agreements on fundamental issues of foreign policy and security.
Slovakia’s Ministry of Defense plans to launch four criminal cases: three against Heger’s government as a collective body and one separately against former Defense Minister Jaroslav Nagy. The charges include treason, abuse of power, and breach of duty to manage state property.
