The son of former SBU chief Bakanov is building a mansion near Kyiv on a plot of land purchased at a low price: ‘Schemes’
Artur Lazarenko, the son of former SBU chief Ivan Bakanov, has acquired a plot of land near Kyiv at a threefold reduction in price and is already completing the construction of a two-storey mansion. This is stated in an investigation by Skhemy.
The journalists found out that in September 2021, Bakanov’s son purchased almost 10 hectares of land with an unfinished house in the prestigious area of the village of Khodosivka in Kyiv region. The contractual value of the plot was 455 thousand hryvnias ($17 thousand), although the previous owner bought it in January 2021 for 1.4 million hryvnias ($50.2 thousand). Journalists tried to contact the seller, but she did not respond to calls and messages.
Real estate experts explained that transactions are often underpriced to reduce taxes. According to the journalists, the two-storey house of about 300 square metres looks almost complete.
‘Skhemy tried to get comments from Artur Lazarenko, but the phones they found were disconnected. Ivan Bakanov also did not respond to inquiries.
Ivan Bakanov has been the head of the SBU since August 2019. Prior to that, he was the head of the Servant of the People party and the head of the Kvartal-95 studio. In July 2022, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy suspended him from office, and later the Verkhovna Rada dismissed him from the SBU.
