The Supreme Court of Ukraine closed the case of MP Yaroslav Dubnevych on the embezzlement of UAH 93 million from Ukrzaliznytsia
The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court closed the case of the embezzlement of 93 million hryvnias from Ukrzaliznytsia, in which MP Yaroslav Dubnevych appears. The reason was the expiration of the pre-trial investigation period. This was reported by the Supreme Court of Criminal Procedure.
The court noted that the defense’s motion was granted, and the criminal proceedings were closed in accordance with Clause 10, Part 1, Article 284 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine due to the expiration of the pre-trial investigation period after the serving of the suspicion. The Supreme Court’s decision can be appealed within seven days from the moment of its announcement.
According to Transparency International Ukraine, this is not the first time that this case has been closed. In September 2022, the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court had already decided to close it on the same grounds. At the same time, in May 2023, the Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court overturned this decision and returned the materials to the court of first instance.
The pre-trial investigation into the case was completed, and the indictment was transferred to the Supreme Anti-Corruption Court for consideration on the merits in February 2022.
Dubnevych is on trial in the case of embezzlement of UAH 93 million from Ukrzaliznytsia. According to the investigation, the People’s Deputy of Ukraine, together with eight other people, organized a scheme according to which the Branch “Production Support Center” of PJSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” purchased small arms products at significantly inflated prices from December 2015 to March 2017.
