The Supreme Court of Ukraine has left Halushchenko in custody pending the selection of a preventive measure.

The Supreme Court of Ukraine has left former Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko in custody until the imposition of a preventive measure, having considered his complaint about the detention, as reported by the Anti-Corruption Center.

As stated in the report, on February 16, investigative judge Viktor Nogachevsky partially satisfied the complaint of the former minister’s defense and ruled that the suspect will continue to be in custody until the issue of a preventive measure is resolved.

“Investigative judge Viktor Nogachevsky considered the complaint of the defense of former Energy Minister Herman Galushchenko about his allegedly illegal detention. The defense’s complaint was partially satisfied. “Galushchenko himself remains in custody and will await the selection of a preventive measure,” the Anti-Corruption Center reported.

During the trial, the defense stated that the border guards at the checkpoint allegedly informed NABU detectives about Galushchenko’s intention to cross the border. According to the CPC, on the night of February 14-15, he was traveling by train from Kyiv to Warsaw, and at 03:38 on February 15, he was removed from the train.

“Approximately between 06:00 and 06:30, the former minister expressed a desire to leave the checkpoint and return to Kyiv, to which the border guards informed him that “guests” were waiting. NABU detectives arrived at 9 am. Galushchenko himself was taken to Kyiv at around 19:00 on February 15,” the Anti-Corruption Center noted.

As previously reported, on February 17, the CAC will choose a preventive measure for the suspect, and the prosecution will insist on detention. It is also known that NABU and SAPO detained Galushchenko while attempting to cross the border and handed him a suspicion in the “Midas” case on suspicion of large-scale money laundering.
