Following the negotiations between government delegations, Ukraine and Slovakia signed a number of important agreements.

Negotiations between Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko and Prime Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico were held in the Slovak city of Košice. During the negotiations, Yulia Svyrydenko’s team concluded a number of important agreements with the government of Slovakia, relating to energy security, defense, and European integration of Ukraine.

During the meeting, the parties discussed issues of energy security, defense cooperation, infrastructure development, education, and sanctions policy towards Russia. A detailed analysis of areas of cooperation was also held at the level of relevant ministries.

Four agreements were signed as a result of the negotiations: on cooperation in the field of labor migration, on financial and technical assistance, and a protocol on the operation of checkpoints, which provides for the launch of the pedestrian and bicycle crossing “Uzhgorod – Vyshne Nemetske” by the end of the year and increasing the cargo throughput of the “Maly Berezny – Ublya” point to 5 tons, as well as an agreement on the placement of diplomatic missions.

Yulia Svyrydenko emphasized that Slovakia is ready to join the protection of the Ukrainian energy system and support projects to create shelters in schools in front-line regions. An important result of the agreements was the decision to open the first bilingual Ukrainian school in Bratislava in 2026.

“A separate important decision is that the first bilingual Ukrainian school will open in Bratislava in 2026. This will allow our children, who were forced to leave due to the war, to study in a Ukrainian environment and maintain ties with the Motherland”, the head of the Ukrainian government added.
