The Supreme Court of Ukraine sentenced former head of the State Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov to 6 years in prison
The Supreme Anti-Corruption Court (SAC) found former head of the State Fiscal Service Roman Nasirov guilty in the case of making illegal decisions in favor of companies associated with former MP Oleksandr Onyshchenko. He was sentenced to 6 years in prison and was taken into custody right in the courtroom. This became known from the broadcast of the hearing.
A panel of judges consisting of Ihor Strohy, Lesya Fedorak, and Viktor Nogachevskyi made a decision to find Nasirov guilty. The court sentenced him to 6 years in prison, a fine of 17,000 hryvnias (the maximum sanction of the article) and a ban on holding certain positions for three years.
Nasirov’s accomplice, Volodymyr Novikov, was sentenced to 4 years in prison with a similar fine and a ban on holding public positions. Both defendants were taken into custody in the courtroom until the verdict becomes final.
The decision has not yet entered into force. The Appeals Chamber of the Supreme Court of Criminal Appeals is to consider the appeals by mid-April 2026. If this does not happen, Nasirov may avoid punishment due to the expiration of the statute of limitations.
As a reminder, on October 30, the Supreme Court of Criminal Appeals extended the term of preventive duties for Nasirov until December 30, 2025. The defense lawyers requested to change the preventive measure from bail to personal bond, but the court refused. Prosecutors insisted that Nasirov could leave the country, given the presence of three children, while the defense assured that he did not have a deferment from mobilization.
The court supported the SAPO prosecutor’s request and left in force the obligations: to appear when summoned, not to leave the borders of the Kyiv region without the court’s permission, to report a change of residence, not to contact other participants in the case, to surrender his international passport and to wear an electronic bracelet. The request to change the preventive measure was dismissed.
