About this reportedMinistry of Health.
The Single Center for the Identification of Bodies (Remains) of Unidentified Persons Killed as a Result of the Armed Aggression of the Russian Federation is a modern specialized institution at the state level. It is here that examinations will be carried out to establish identity in cases requiring the most complex research.
During an on-site meeting with the participation of Deputy Head of the President’s Office Iryna Vereshchuk, representatives of the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Main Bureau of Forensic Medical Examination, the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), the Center’s readiness for launch was checked.
“The Ministry of Health, together with other state institutions and international partners, is consistently developing a modern system of forensic medical institutions. Its goal is to improve the processes of identifying bodies and ensuring high standards of conducting examinations. The opening of the National Identification Center is certainly an important step in strengthening the state’s potential to conduct comprehensive and highly accurate research in the most complex cases,”— said Deputy Minister of Health Ihor Kopach.
This is a completely new building, built in accordance with modern standards of forensic examination, which will become part of the nationwide network of forensic medical institutions of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The center was created to strengthen the state’s capabilities in identifying war victims, as well as for work in the post-war period.
The institution will ensure cooperation between Ukrainian forensic experts and international specialists, which will allow for the exchange of experience and the application of the best world practices in forensic identification. The creation of the National Identification Center is an important step for the state, which brings Ukraine closer to European standards of forensic examination and, most importantly, allows us to return the names of those who gave their lives for Ukraine with dignity.
