The United Nations found Russia and North Korea guilty of jamming GPS signals

The International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) has officially recognized Russia and North Korea as guilty of jamming GPS signals in European airspace. This is reported by AeroTime.

ICAO is a specialized UN agency responsible for establishing international norms and standards in the field of aviation safety.

The resolution regarding the destabilizing influence of Russia and the DPRK on navigation systems was adopted after the end of the organization’s triennial assembly in Montreal. In the document, the ICAO called on Moscow and Pyongyang to immediately stop creating obstacles and fully comply with their international obligations to ensure the uninterrupted operation of navigation systems. This decision became one of the harshest warnings that the organization has ever issued to states involved in interfering with global satellite navigation.

A number of European countries, including Estonia and Finland, have publicly accused Russia of interfering with navigation systems. A joint investigation by Sweden, Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia and Poland found that between January and April 2025, more than 122,600 flights in Northern Europe experienced disruptions to GPS and other satellite systems due to Russia’s actions.

In April, navigation problems affected an average of 27.4% of flights, and in some areas this indicator exceeded 42%. “Mufflers” were placed on the territory of Russia, in particular in Kaliningrad, St. Petersburg, Smolensk and Rostov, which is confirmed by the results of the investigation.
