The United States and Ukraine will start working on a free trade zone
Ukraine and the United States begin joint work on the creation of a free trade zone. This was discussed during a meeting in Washington between Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessant. informs press service of the Cabinet of Ministers.
“We appreciate the constructive tone of the negotiations between our technical teams and count on further fruitful dialogue for the well-being of the Ukrainian and American peoples”, Shmyhal said.
During the negotiations, issues of economic cooperation between the countries were also raised and financial support for Ukraine for 2026 was discussed.
“The government of Ukraine unquestionably supports the conclusion of an economic partnership agreement between the American and Ukrainian peoples and the creation of a reconstruction investment fund. Our negotiating teams continue their active work, as stipulated in the signed memorandum. The negotiating teams will report on progress by April 26 of this year.”, – added the Prime Minister.
In addition, Shmyhal thanked President Donald Trump for extending the sanctions against Russia for another year, as well as for maintaining the ban on the entry of vessels connected to the Russian Federation into US ports.
“It is necessary to increase the sanctions pressure on the aggressor in order to force him to peace. In particular, they discussed the strengthening of sanctions against the energy sector of the Russian Federation in connection with the occupation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP”. — noted Denys Shmyhal.
