The United States, Japan and South Korea began joint exercises, involving an aircraft carrier and a destroyer
The US, Japan and South Korea have launched the massive Freedom Edge military exercise, aimed at strengthening cooperation between the nations in the face of the growing threat from North Korea and its closer cooperation with Russia.
As informs Yonhap, the three-day exercise began on Wednesday, November 13, and is taking place in international waters south of the South Korean island of Jeju. This is the second stage of the Freedom Edge maneuvers, the first of which took place four months ago.
The main purpose of the exercises is to improve the interoperability of the defense forces, in particular in the anti-missile and anti-aircraft spheres, as well as practice naval operations. The American aircraft carrier USS George Washington, the South Korean destroyer ROKS Seoae Ryu Seong-ryong and the Japanese destroyer JS Haguro are participating in the maneuvers.
It will be recalled that earlier North Korea announced the successful testing of its longest intercontinental ballistic missile, saying that this is a demonstration of readiness to respond to the actions of enemies.
