The United States proposed a bill to discuss the acquisition of Greenland

In the US, Republicans from the House of Representatives have developed a bill that gives Donald Trump the authority to start negotiations with Denmark about the possible acquisition of Greenland. About this informs Reuters.
The bill was initiated by Republican Andy Ogles from Tennessee. The document, entitled “Make Greenland Great Again”, was also supported by Congresswoman Diana Harshbarger. If the bill is passed, the president will receive permission to begin negotiations with Denmark on January 20, 2025, after Trump officially takes office.
“Congress authorizes the President, beginning at 12:01 a.m. EST on January 20, 2025, to enter into negotiations with the Kingdom of Denmark to secure the acquisition of Greenland by the United States,” – it is stated in the accompanying text to the draft law.
After the conclusion of the agreement, the president is obliged to provide the text of the agreement together with accompanying materials to Congress within 5 days.
“Not later than 5 calendar days after reaching an agreement with the Kingdom of Denmark regarding the acquisition of Greenland by the United States, the President shall transmit to the appropriate committees of Congress the agreement, including all related materials and appendices.”, the document states.
Let us remind you that Greenland has been under the jurisdiction of Denmark for several centuries: first as a colony, and now as a semi-sovereign territory. Its legal status is governed by the Danish Constitution, so any changes will require the introduction of appropriate constitutional amendments.
