The US announced a trade deal with China

The United States of America announced that it had reached a trade agreement with China. The parties were able to reach an agreement after two days of negotiations in Geneva. About this it is said in a statement from the White House.

A briefing is planned for May 12, at which the details of the new agreement will be made public.

Finance Minister Scott Bessent hailed significant progress in key trade talks:

“The Swiss government has been very kind to give us this great venue and I think that has led to great productivity.”

U.S. Trade Representative Jamieson Greer said the pace at which an agreement was reached may indicate that the differences between the two sides were less significant than first thought.

“A lot of work has been done in these two days. Just remember why we’re here – the United States has a huge trade deficit of $1.2 trillion, so the president has declared a state of emergency and imposed tariffs, and we’re confident that the agreement we reached with our Chinese partners will help us work to resolve this emergency.” – added Geer.

We will remind that the negotiations between the USA and China started on May 11. After the first day of meetings in Geneva, US President Donald Trump announced the achievement of “great progress” in relations with Beijing.
