The US Congress approved the budget for 2026, providing almost $900 billion for defense spending

The House of Representatives of the US Congress approved the budget for the 2026 fiscal year, which begins on October 1, providing almost 900 billion dollars for defense spending. Of this amount, 400 million is earmarked for military aid to Ukraine within the framework of the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). This is reported by Military Times.

231 congressmen voted in favor of the document, 196 spoke against. The vote showed a split along party lines: among the minority Democrats, 17 supported the bill, while four Republicans from the majority abstained.

The text also includes a provision obliging the Pentagon to inform Congress if the US administration decides to cancel or suspend previously approved aid to Ukraine.

“This will fundamentally reform the defense procurement system. This will continue the historic improvement in the quality of life for our service members and their families. And it will create the ready, capable and lethal combat forces we need to deter China and our other adversaries, said House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers.

Further, the draft law must be considered by the Senate, after which it will be sent to a special commission for finalization. The final version of the document will be submitted to US President Donald Trump for signature. The day before, a separate bill on the restoration of the Jackson-Vanik amendment was submitted to Congress.
