The US Department of Energy sees Ukraine as a key energy hub for Europe
Ukraine has all the prerequisites to take the place of one of the leading energy centers of the European continent. Representatives of the US Department of Energy during a visit to Kyiv highly appreciated the potential of the domestic gas infrastructure, in particular the unique capabilities of underground storage facilities and the extensive energy transportation system.
Washington is officially considering options for increasing the volume of exports of liquefied natural gas to Ukraine. Since the United States is already a world leader in this field and plans to double supplies by 2030, Ukraine can become a critically important link in ensuring the energy security of Central and Western Europe.
“Ukraine has the largest gas storage facilities in Europe, which can become an important logistical bridge for Central and Western Europe,” said Senior Advisor to the US Secretary of Energy Andy Rapp.
The American side emphasizes that it sees Ukraine not only as a consumer or transit country, but also as a promising producer of natural gas. According to US experts, the presence of significant domestic deposits allows the country to actively increase production. A separate strategic project is the development of a “vertical corridor”, which will allow for the effective pumping of energy from the southern regions to the northern borders of Europe through Ukrainian territory.
“Washington sees the future of Ukraine as an important center of the European energy transmission and production system”, added the special envoy of the US Department of Energy, Joshua Volz.
An important step in strengthening this cooperation was the arrival of the first batch of American liquefied gas to Ukraine in March 2026. This supply was implemented within the framework of an agreement with Greek partners. The parties are currently discussing the technical aspects of creating Ukraine’s own infrastructure for regasification of blue fuel, which will allow diversifying energy sources and strengthening energy independence.
The involvement of American technologies and investments in the mining industry opens up new opportunities for the modernization of Ukraine’s energy sector. The introduction of innovative solutions in gas storage and transportation will contribute to deeper integration of the Ukrainian GTS into the pan-European network, which is a key factor for the stable development of the region.
