The US did not agree to the transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine

The US has not agreed to the transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine because their development takes from six months to a year. This statement was made by US President Donald Trump during a press conference on the sidelines of a meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.

Donald Trump noted that the US side has no intention of training other armies to use Tomahawk missiles:

“Tomahawk requires a huge learning curve. It is a very powerful weapon, a very precise weapon, and perhaps that is what makes it so complex. It takes a year of intensive training to learn how to use it, and we know how to use it, and we’re not going to teach it to other people”.

According to Trump, the only way for Ukraine to use Tomahawk missiles would be if they were launched directly by the United States:

“They’re very complex, so the only way to fire a “Tomahawk” is if we fire at it, and we don’t”.

Tomahawks are cruise missiles that are mainly used by the US Navy to hit distant land targets. They are launched from ships or submarines; their range reaches 2,500 km (1,550 miles).

As a reminder, on October 6, Donald Trump announced that he had partially decided on the possible supply of Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine, but stressed that he did not want escalation and wanted to know where and for what purposes these missiles would be directed before making a final decision. US Vice President J.D. Vance confirmed that Washington is discussing the option of supplying Tomahawks to Ukraine, but the final decision remains with Trump.
