The US expressed satisfaction with the current customs regime with China

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said that Washington is satisfied with the current customs regime in relations with China. About this informs Bloomberg.

Responding to journalists’ questions about the prospects of negotiations between the US and China and the need for a trade agreement with regard to tariffs, Bessent emphasized that the US is “very satisfied” with the situation.

“I think the status quo is working pretty well right now. China is the biggest source of tariff revenue, so if something is working, don’t break it.” – explained Bessent.

The official also noted that the United States had “very good negotiations with China.”

“I think we’ll see them again before November.” he added.

Donald Trump’s administration has recently softened its rhetoric on relations with Beijing, seeking to arrange a meeting with Xi Jinping and a trade deal.

Recall that on August 5, Trump said that the United States is close to concluding an agreement with China and that he will meet with the Chinese leader before the end of the year if an agreement is reached.

On August 12, Trump extended the “tariff truce” with China for another 90 days, creating conditions for further negotiations between the world’s two largest economies.
