The US is interested in completing the Khmelnytsky NPP power units to strengthen Ukraine’s energy security: People’s Deputy
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the project to complete power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytsky NPP, the readiness of which is 75% and 25%, respectively.

The United States of America has shown interest in completing the completion of power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytsky NPP, which will also contribute to an increase in the supply of nuclear fuel. People’s deputy Serhiy Nagornyak reported this, Telegraf reports.
“The Americans are interested in the completion of the 3rd and 4th power units, as this will allow us to increase the volumes of fuel that we will buy from them”, – said the people’s deputy, referring to Westinghouse fuel.
In addition, the United States expressed interest in the construction of two additional units of the Khmelnytsky NPP – the fifth and sixth – using American technologies. They are considering the possibility of providing technological and financial support for the implementation of this project.
During the visit to Kyiv, US special representative Penny Pritzker noted that the construction of additional NPP units is the optimal solution for overcoming the capacity deficit. She emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s energy independence and the need to invest in its energy infrastructure.
Earlier, the government of Ukraine approved the project to complete power units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytsky NPP, the readiness of which is 75% and 25%, respectively. The plans also consider upgrading the existing units to improve their efficiency and safety.
Ukraine and the USA continue active cooperation in the field of energy, which includes the supply of nuclear fuel, the construction of new power units, and the improvement of the safety of existing facilities. This cooperation is aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s energy security and reducing dependence on Russian energy resources.
