The US must continue to fund the Ukrainian army so that Putin fails, Celeste Wallander
US Assistant Secretary of Defense for International Security Affairs Celeste Wallander said the United States must continue to fund Ukraine’s armed forces in order for Putin to fail in his brutal war.
“Putin’s goal is to subordinate Ukraine to himself, to deprive it of its sovereignty and independence, as well as to weaken and undermine Europe, America and especially, of course, the NATO alliance“, – said Wallander to the members of the committee of the House of Representatives of the armed forces.
The US and its allies around the world are seeking the “strategic failure” of Putin’s war.
“Our policy in the last two years is that Ukraine should remain a sovereign, independent European state capable of defending itself, deterring and defeating Putin,” said Vollander. “Ukraine does this with our support every day.”.
Supporting Ukraine has far-reaching consequences:
- Strengthening the NATO alliance to protect America’s security interests in Europe.
- Deterring Russia and demonstrating US resolve to China.
- Prevention of destruction of Ukraine and protection of its population.
The USA has already provided Ukraine with significant aid:
- Thanks to US leadership in the Defense Contact Group of Ukraine, more than $88 billion in security assistance has been provided to Ukraine.
- Russia spent more than 211 billion dollars on the war, which shows that the country cannot afford such expenses.
