The US, South Korea and Japan have started joint military exercises: North Korea threatens to respond

On August 15, the United States, South Korea and Japan began the first joint multidisciplinary military exercises since Donald Trump and Lee Jae-min came to power. At the same time, North Korea called these maneuvers military exercises and threatened to respond, reports Bloomberg.

The five-day Freedom Edge exercise takes place in international waters near the South Korean resort island of Jejudo. The naval, air and cyber units of the three states are involved in them.

The Joint Chiefs of Staff of South Korea explained that these maneuvers are planned and are aimed at strengthening the coordination of the actions of allies in countering the nuclear and missile threat from North Korea.

At the same time, the North Korean authorities said that the country’s army will respond to the training of the allies with a “very clear and intensified countermeasures” if the “muscle game” will continue In the DPRK, such joint maneuvers are traditionally considered a rehearsal for war.

In a separate statement, Kim Jong Un’s sister, Kim Yo Jong, said that the “reckless show of force” on the part of the USA, Japan and South Korea in relation to the DPRK will inevitably lead to “bad results” for allies.

We remind you that in June, the USA, South Korea and Japan already conducted joint aviation exercises, and in August, Washington and Seoul organized their annual large-scale military maneuvers.
