The US State Department approved the sale of Javelin missile systems to Poland for a total of $780 million

The US State Department has approved a foreign military contract with Poland for the sale of Javelin missile systems with a total cost of about $780 million. This is reports the website of the Military Cooperation Office of the US Department of Defense (DSCA).

The Polish government has requested the purchase of 2,506 FGM-148F Javelin missiles and 253 Javelin Lightweight Command Launch Units.

“The proposed sale will contribute to US foreign policy and national security, enhancing the security of a NATO ally that plays an important role in ensuring political and economic stability in Europe”, the statement said.

The Pentagon emphasized that such an agreement will strengthen Poland’s defense capabilities, help replace outdated launchers and expand its arsenal to counter current and future threats.

“This will strengthen the country’s ability to defend its sovereign territory and increase its ability to meet NATO requirements. Poland will have no difficulty integrating these products and services into its own Armed Forces, DSCA added.

RTX and Lockheed Martin corporations have been identified as the main executors of the contract. The agency also emphasized that the implementation of this sale will not change the basic military balance in the region.

“Implementation of this potential contract will not require the deployment of additional US government officials or contractors to Poland. This sale will not have a negative impact on the level of US defense readiness, the Pentagon added.
