The US will help protect Poland and the Baltic states if Russia continues to escalate: Donald Trump
US President Donald Trump declared his readiness to provide protection to Poland and the Baltic states, which are allies of the United States within NATO, in case of further escalation by Russia. About this he notified to journalists before taking off by helicopter from the White House.
When asked whether he is ready to help protect Poland and the Baltic states from Russia in the event of continued aggression, Trump replied:
“Yes, I would do that”.
His words came against the backdrop of concerns about the Trump administration’s possible termination of European security support programs, particularly in the Baltic states. Earlier, the US president emphasized that he “doesn’t like” incidents with Russian planes in the Baltic Sea, and he expects detailed information from the intelligence services.
Recall that in August, the Pentagon informed European diplomats about plans to reduce security support to Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia. American official David Baker attributed this to the need for Europe to reduce its dependence on the United States, as Washington, under the leadership of Donald Trump, focuses on domestic issues. Concerns were expressed in Europe that such a move could push the Kremlin to aggressive actions.
On the morning of September 19, three Russian MiG-31 fighter jets entered Estonian airspace in the area of Windloo Island without permission. On the same day, the border service of Poland reported that two Russian fighter jets violated the security zone of the Petrobaltic oil and gas platform in the Baltic Sea by flying over it.
