The Verkhovna Rada supported the purchase of Russian equipment for the Khmelnytskyi NPP

The Verkhovna Rada decided to allocate 1 billion dollars for the purchase of two nuclear reactors for the Khmelnytskyi nuclear power plant. 261 people’s deputies voted for the relevant bill. About this reported People’s Deputy Yaroslav Zheleznyak.
Russian-made reactors are planned to be purchased in Bulgaria for the completion of the 3rd and 4th power units of the Khmelnytsky NPP. The construction of these power units has been ongoing for a long time and has been repeatedly suspended.
Energoatom intends to purchase reactors of the type “VVER-1000” manufactured by Russia, but Ukraine will receive them through Bulgaria, where the construction of the Belene NPP was stopped back in 1990. The company noted that this is a Soviet development, well known to Ukrainian specialists, and therefore, Ukraine will be able to service them independently without the need to buy components in Russia.
So far, the parliament has only approved the purchase of the reactors, not the start of construction. At the same time, deputies from “Golos” and “European Solidarity” did not support the allocation of funds. They explained their decision by the fact that the draft law was completely changed before the second reading, which violates the regulations of the Verkhovna Rada.
People’s deputies of these factions also expressed distrust in the leadership of “Energoatom” and “Minenergo”, stressing that the construction of the reactors will last at least 5 years, and the problem of electricity shortage must be solved now.
