The Verkhovna Rada: there will be no prizes for the best school graduates again
In 2021, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine passed a decision on awarding school graduates who showed the best results during external independent evaluation. After the start of a full-scale war, the external examination in all subjects had to be replaced by one exam – the National Multi-Subject Test. Due to this, the premiums for students were canceled. This week, the parliament announced that there will be no awards for graduates this year either.
What was the prize?
The amount of the award was 100,000 hryvnias. Payment of this amount was distributed over the entire next academic year. According to the procedure, the 50 best graduates were determined. Mandatory conditions were to pass 4 tests with 790 points or higher. At the same time, the graduate had to score the maximum number of points – 200 in at least one subject.
Another condition is that the former student had to enter the university.
What did the Verkhovna Rada decide?
Because of the war, the children do not take the final exams. Payment of premiums was provided for passing these exams. Until they are restored, graduates will not be able to receive a scholarship from the parliament.
“Taking into account the continuation of martial law, which was caused by the military aggression of the Russian Federation, as well as taking into account the change in the format of the external independent evaluation of the results of studies obtained on the basis of full general secondary education in 2024, which makes it impossible to carry out the procedure for selecting candidates for awarding the Prize of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for the best to the participants of the external independent evaluation of the study results obtained on the basis of full general secondary education in 2024, the Resolution temporarily suspends the competitive selection of the best participants of the external independent evaluation”. – noted in the Verkhovna Rada.
Instead of ZNO, students pass NMT. This is a computer version of the exam, which combines tasks from the Ukrainian language, mathematics, history and English. Based on the results of the test, the graduate receives an overall grade in all subjects.
