Toyota RAV4 topped global car sales in 2025

In 2025, the Toyota RAV4 crossover topped the world ranking of the best-selling car models, overtaking the previous leader, the Toyota Corolla. At the same time, the Ford F-Series significantly improved its position, moving up four places to third place. About this informs Focus2move.

Despite the growth of the electric car market, only one electric model made it to the top ten — Tesla Model Y, which lost one position in the ranking. In general, the pace of sales of electric cars has slowed, and manufacturers Tesla and BYD have reported lower sales due to problems with charging station infrastructure and disruptions in supply chains.

In January 2025, Toyota RAV4 became the world market leader, selling 73,907 units, which is 11.4% less than in the same period last year. Toyota Corolla was in second place with 70,822 cars sold, showing a decline of 26.4%.

The Ford F-Series, which rose four places, recorded a strong sales increase of 42.5% to 69,805 units. Tesla Model Y, which lost one position, sold 64,405 cars, which is 19.6% less than last year. The Honda CR-V took fifth place with 53,492 units sold, down 25.2%.

Volkswagen Tiguan strengthened its position, climbing six lines and selling 46,093 cars, which is 10.6% more than before. The Chevrolet Silverado came in seventh with 44,686 sales, down 8.8%. Hyundai Tucson, which fell three positions, sold 44,623 units (-9.8%).

Toyota Camry lost one place, selling 43,455 cars, which is 8.1% less than the previous year. Instead, the Kia Sportage moved up one spot to 39,333 sales, although that also represents a 7.7% decline.
