Trade turnover through the seaports of Ukraine increased by 28%, and land transportation decreased by 8%

In 2024, Ukraine’s trade turnover through seaports increased significantly, while land transport experienced a decline. By data According to the State Customs Service of Ukraine, the volume of goods moved through sea checkpoints increased by 28.2% and reached 97.91 million tons. At the same time, the volume of overland trade decreased by 8.1%, amounting to 64.3 million tons.
The volume of transportation through pipelines decreased by 8.1%, to 26.1 million tons, while the volume of electricity transmitted through power lines increased by 2.9 times and reached 6,237.5 GWh. Total merchandise imports increased by 10.3% to 30.1 million tons, while exports increased by 10.9% to 132.1 million tons.
Transport flow through sea ports also shows positive dynamics. The number of sea vessels that crossed the customs border of Ukraine increased by 14.1% and reached 10.4 thousand, while river vessels increased by 3% to 34.4 thousand. However, road traffic decreased by 6.8% (to 7.67 million units), and rail traffic decreased by 8.2% (to 1.28 million wagons). At the same time, the number of aircraft crossing the border doubled to 200 units.
Among land routes, positive dynamics were recorded only on the border with Poland, where the turnover increased by 1% and reached 32.83 million tons. On the other hand, at the borders with Slovakia and Romania, volumes decreased by 12% and 12.2%, to 13.36 million tons and 9.26 million tons, respectively. The biggest reduction occurred on the border with Hungary (-22.1%, to 4.57 million tons) and Moldova (-26.5%, to 4.27 million tons).
The total volume of foreign trade of Ukraine for January-November 2024 reached 101.9 billion dollars. In monetary terms, exports increased by 18.5% to $41.6 billion, while imports increased by 11.3% to $70.7 billion. The main suppliers of goods to Ukraine remain China ($13 billion), Poland ($6.3 billion) and Germany ($4.8 billion).
Thus, the seaports of Ukraine became a key destination for the transportation of goods in 2024, which helped to compensate for the decrease in the volume of land transportation due to the complex logistics situation and changes in international trade.
