Trump and Zelensky met at the NATO summit in The Hague

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi and US President Donald Trump conducted meeting on the sidelines of the NATO summit in The Hague. It lasted about 50 minutes.

“A long and meaningful meeting with President Trump. We covered all the really important issues. I thank Mr. President, thank you to the United States. We talked about how to achieve a ceasefire and real peace. We talked about how to protect our people.” Zelensky howled.

According to him, he and the US president discussed the possibility of Ukraine purchasing American weapons. Ukraine is especially interested in air defense systems. Also, the presidents of Ukraine and the USA discussed the details of the negotiations between Ukraine and Russia in Istanbul.

“Russia handed us over the corpses of its dead. Now in Kyiv, examinations are being conducted to find their relatives”, — noted Zelensky.

He told Trump about the situation on the fronts.

“Russia is definitely not winning. I presented the president with facts about what is really happening on the ground”, Zelensky summarized.

The President of Ukraine congratulated the President of the United States on the operation in the Middle East, during which the United States struck Iran’s nuclear facilities.

For his part, US President Donald Trump, following the NATO summit and meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyi, said that he was satisfied that the alliance countries agreed to raise defense spending to 5% of GDP.

“After my election as president in November 2024, almost all NATO countries agreed to raise defense spending to 2% of GDP. And now they will raise it to 5% of GDP, which is quite good. If the allies raise spending to 5%, then we will all spend about a trillion dollars a year. This is a great achievement for Europe.”— Trump said.

He called the war started by Russia against Ukraine a “terrible situation”. The US president repeated again that this war “would not have started” if he were president. Russia started a war against Ukraine in 2014 with the occupation of Crimea.

Trump said that he wanted to know about Zelensky’s condition and that “he was friendly.”

“I wanted to know how he feels. We had a great meeting. We didn’t talk about a ceasefire. Maybe next week I’ll talk to Putin and then I’ll bring it up. I think it’s a great time to end it.”, — explained Donald Trump.

The US president also said that ending Russia’s war against Ukraine is “very difficult” because he has “problems” with both Putin and Zelensky. Trump also said that he will “see” whether the United States will provide funds for Ukraine’s defense. He repeated that “Putin wants to end the war.” According to him, the USA “should consider” the possibility of selling Patriot air defense systems and missiles to Ukraine, because the offer is “limited”.

“We gave them to Israel. We have to see if we can give them to Ukraine. I want to give them.” Trump added.
