Trump does not rule out running for a third presidential term
US President Donald Trump has allowed the possibility of running for a third presidential term, despite the fact that the 22nd amendment to the US Constitution expressly prohibits it. That’s what he’s about stated in an interview with NBC News.
“A lot of people want me to do it. But, I mean, I mostly tell them we have a long way to go, you know, it’s still very early in the administration. I’m not kidding. But it’s too early to think about that.” – said Trump.
At the same time, he emphasized that he is currently focused on the current presidential term, but hinted that there are mechanisms that would potentially allow him to run for a third term. When asked by reporters if there are legal ways that would allow him to return to the White House after 2029, Trump answered in the affirmative, confirming the existence of such options.
Among the possible scenarios, he mentioned a situation where Vice President J.D. Vance runs for office and, in the event of victory, transfers the powers of the presidency to him. At the same time, Trump noted that this is not the only way, but did not reveal the details. Currently, more than 50% of Americans are sure that Trump will try for a third term. The US Congress has already proposed this initiative, but it is not known how it will all end.
It will be recalled that the 22nd amendment to the US Constitution, ratified in 1951, prohibits one person from holding the office of president for more than two terms.
