Turkey discovers new gas field worth $30 billion in Black Sea
Turkish geologists have made an important discovery in the Black Sea – a new natural gas field called “Göktepe 3” has been found. As the President of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, reported on his page in social networks H, the volume of gas in the new field is 75 billion cubic meters, and its economic value is estimated at $30 billion.
According to the Turkish leader, the open reserves are capable of providing the needs of all Turkish households for three and a half years. Erdogan also emphasized that the key goal of the state energy policy remains Turkey’s complete energy independence.
The country is actively increasing its own production of natural gas, reducing dependence on imported energy sources and strengthening its position on the international market as a potential regional energy hub.
Among the examples of such progress is the Sakarya gas field, which, after commissioning, made it possible to increase annual gas production from 400 million cubic meters to 1.3 billion, and already in 2024 – to 2.26 billion cubic meters.
In addition to domestic needs, Turkey also declared its readiness to help other countries in the exploration and production of natural gas, in particular, Hungary, with which relevant agreements were reached.
