Turkish Foreign Minister Says Israel is Using Security Issues as Pretext for Territorial Expansion

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan told the Antalya Diplomatic Forum that Israel was using security issues as a pretext for territorial expansion. He called on Israel to unconditionally respect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of other states in the region.

Hakan Fidan stressed that the current strategy of the Israeli leadership is based on using security arguments as a tool for the actual expansion of territorial possessions. According to the diplomat, this approach makes it impossible to establish lasting peace in the Middle East.

Hakan Fidan noted that true stability in the region can be achieved only if Israel abandons the practice of using force and recognizes the right of neighboring peoples to security and state independence. The Turkish side believes that the actions of the government led by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu are aimed at occupying new lands, which only deepens the crisis and creates additional risks for international security.

“The Netanyahu government is using security issues as a pretext for occupying new lands. Israel must understand that the only way to live peacefully in the region is to allow other countries to have their own security, territorial integrity and freedom, and not to use force against them,” the Turkish Foreign Minister noted.

According to observations by the foreign media outlet The Guardian, Turkey is actively trying to position itself as a key mediator in the Middle East settlement process. However, analysts point out that the increasingly sharp criticism of the Israeli authorities casts doubt on Ankara’s ability to maintain a neutral position during possible negotiations. Despite this, Turkish diplomacy continues to insist on the need to comply with international law and protect the rights of the civilian population.

The diplomatic corps’ harsh statements echo previous statements by the country’s top leadership. In particular, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has previously strongly condemned Israel’s actions in the territories of Palestine and Lebanon, describing them as unacceptable acts of violence.

The head of state also suggested the possibility of using military tools to protect regional interests, drawing parallels with previous operations carried out by the Turkish Armed Forces in other conflict zones.

Further escalation of rhetoric between the states creates additional tension in the international arena. Turkey calls on the world community to pay attention to the humanitarian aspects of the conflict and demands that Israel revise its current military doctrine. The situation remains dynamic, and Ankara’s diplomatic efforts are currently focused on mobilizing support for the idea of territorial sovereignty of all participants in the Middle East process.
