Two thermal power plants, which will work on garbage, will be built in the capital
Over the last three months, the Russians have carried out attacks on Ukrainian power plants and energy infrastructure eight times. Total losses to the energy sector are estimated at more than one billion dollars. In this regard, the search for ways to compensate for losses through the introduction of new technologies and the construction of a larger number of smaller power plants continues both at the national and local levels.
In particular, two CHP plants are planned to be built in the capital, which will produce energy by burning garbage. The local authorities report that the concept of Kyiv’s energy sustainability consists in considering and using all possibilities.
“Among other things, the concept envisages the creation of two CHP plants on different banks of the capital, which will operate on combined fuel and use high-calorie fractions of waste. For large cities, this replacement of usual types of fuel solves two problems at once – energy shortage and the problem of garbage accumulation. This practice is widely used in European cities, and we strive to apply – stated Petro Panteleev, deputy head of the KMDA.
A similar project is planned to be implemented in Lviv.
If such measures are not a common practice and are not implemented as soon as possible, Ukrainians may be without electricity for 20 hours a day in winter.
“If no action is taken, it is likely that in January the population will have only two to four hours of electricity per day,” — predicts the head of the Center for Energy and Climate Research of the Kyiv School of Economics Boris Dodonov.
