New errors found in NUS geography textbooks

There is no end of discussion around the textbooks of the New Ukrainian School (NUS) for the 7th grade. This time, attention was drawn to errors in the geography textbook. Viktor Ukolov, a deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of the 6th convocation, made public information about serious inaccuracies found by teachers in the pages of the new textbook.

According to him, the textbook on geography for the 7th grade made at least three significant mistakes in the illustrations of the globes:

The zero meridian is drawn not through Greenwich, as it should be, but approximately through Moscow.

The signatures under the meridians and parallels are confused.

In his post, Ukolov noted that these errors raise serious doubts about the quality of textbooks and raised the question of the need to check all educational materials.

“If such obvious mistakes have been made in such a simple topic, what can we say about physics, chemistry or mathematics textbooks?”, he asks.

The deputy also emphasized that the problem is not with the specific minister of education, but with the general system, which needs to be fundamentally changed. According to him, similar situations indicate systemic problems in the educational process and the need to reform approaches to creating textbooks.
