Uklon is the first in Ukraine to start testing remote control of cars
IT service company Uklon has launched the first research and pilot testing of remote control technology for cars in Ukraine. It is an intermediate stage for the introduction of Autonomous Vehicles – unmanned cars, in particular robotaxis. This was reported by Uklon on May 27.
The project is being implemented jointly with Boryspil International Airport, on the territory of which a testing platform has been created.
“The goal of the initiative is to test the technology, understand the key aspects of the operation of remotely controlled cars under various conditions, and begin the process of developing and creating the necessary regulatory prerequisites for the launch of autonomous cars (AV) and robotaxis in Ukraine,” the message says.
Uklon emphasized that remote driving technology is a necessary element and a “bridge” to full autonomy. In the future, it can improve transportation safety, optimize logistics, and promote the development of inclusive mobility services.
The first stage of the project focuses on testing remotely controlled cars in real conditions.
Thanks to special software, sensors, cameras, lidar, and mobile networks, remote control technology allows the driver to control the car remotely in real time via a special station.
The technology supplier for the project was the Estonian company Elmo, whose technology is certified in Europe.
The service’s partner drivers were involved in the testing, including a veteran war, who moves in a wheelchair. The company noted that remote control technology also creates additional opportunities for people with lower limb amputations, as it allows you to control a car remotely using manual control.
The first presentation of the remote control technology for cars was held on May 27 for representatives of the state, authorities, local governments and the media.
“Testing and adapting unmanned cars is the next practical step in implementing the Strategy for the Digital Development of Innovations of Ukraine until 2030 WINWIN. The development of such solutions is critically important for the technological sovereignty and economic development of the country,” said the acting head of the Minister of Digital Transformation Oleksandr Bornyakov.
Uklon is a product service IT company and developer of the application of the same name. The service operates in 27 cities of Ukraine and in the Bukovel tourist complex. The company is also represented in Uzbekistan, in the city of Tashkent.
In April 2025, Uklon acquired Kyivstar JSC (JSC Kyivstar), a wholly owned subsidiary of Kyivstar Group Ltd. (Nasdaq: KYIV; KYIVW). Its shares are traded on the Nasdaq American stock exchange, and the company itself is part of the VEON Group.
