Ukraine and Russia hold another prisoner exchange

On June 19, another exchange of prisoners of war took place between Ukraine and Russia. Among the returned fighters, those who were in captivity since 2022 predominate. About this reported Volodymyr Zelenskyi.

“Our people are returning home from Russian captivity. These are soldiers of the Armed Forces, the National Guard, the State Border Service. Most of them have been in captivity since 2022“, the message says.

Freed Ukrainians took part in hostilities on the territories of Donetsk, Zaporizhzhia, Luhansk, Kharkiv, Sumy, Chernihiv and Kyiv regions. Among the returnees are military personnel of the Naval Forces, Airborne Assault Forces, Territorial Defense Forces, National Guard and border guards.

For information of the Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War, among the released are servicemen with serious injuries and serious health problems.

“Every defender released today has serious medical diagnoses and illnesses as a result of injuries and captivity. Many have significant weight loss, dystrophy, ulcers, vision problems, musculoskeletal disorders, cardiovascular disease and digestive problems.”, – clarified the Coordinating Staff.

Most of the soldiers spent more than three years in captivity. Most of them were captured during the defense of Mariupol. All the fighters freed this time belong to the ranks of privates and sergeants. Defenders released from captivity will undergo a full set of medical examinations, will receive support in the process of physical and psychological rehabilitation, as well as all scheduled payments for the period of captivity.
