After signing the ceasefire agreement, Ukraine will need European peacekeeping forces to prevent a possible new attack from Russia. Their number should be at least 200 thousand people. This was stated by the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi, informs Reuters.
“Of all Europeans? 200 thousand is the minimum. This is the minimum, otherwise it is nothing.” – the head of state emphasized at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The named number corresponds to the approximate size of the French army, which, according to the French Ministry of Defense for 2020, was slightly more than 200,000 people.
Zelenskyi emphasized that such a number of peacekeepers is a necessary guarantee of security, given that the Russian army has 1.5 million soldiers, while the number of Ukrainian forces is only half of this figure. He added that these forces will be only one of the elements of the system of security guarantees necessary for Ukraine.
It will be recalled that at the beginning of January, Zelensky stated that the involvement of foreign peacekeepers is an effective tool for forcing Russia to make peace.
